Victorian Vulcanite Bracelet with Berlin Iron Clasp Featuring Julius Caesar
Item #: 8-14-12
A Victorian bracelet, strung on string, of brown and black vulcanite links separated by black glass beads, with a Berlin iron box clasp. The clasp has a filigree frame and features a portrait of Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar, Roman general and dictator, is famous for being assassinated on the Ides of March. The month of July was renamed in his honor, and we still basically use the calendar he devised. The rectangular vulcanite links have brown vulcanite on the bottom, and shiny black vulcanite (or possibly jet) on top. The links measure 2.5 by 1.5 cm, the clasp measures 5 cm tall, while the bracelet is 19.5 cm long. It is in excellent condition. Possibly not together originally, but a wearable example of scarce Berlin iron.
