Item #: 4-23-21
An early 1900's pin in a gold setting, with a flat C catch and replaced tube hinge. It features an Essex Crystal with bright red poppies and green leaves, backed by mother of pearl. The poppy is a symbol of remembrance and hope for the future. It became a symbol of support for the military after World War I, when the first signs of returning life on the blasted battle fields of Flanders were the blooming red poppies. This symbol of bloodshed was popularized by the 1915 poem "In Flanders Fields". Soon after it was adopted has the official symbol of Remembrance and the American Legion. This pin is in beautiful condition and measures 5.6 by 4.1 cm.
